Packing Reminder List

This memory jogger list is prepared to assist both the new and seasoned traveler in not forgetting necessary items during the packing frenzy. Travelers always take too much. Remember, if anything is left behind, a serviceable substitute can be purchased at any point on the globe. You will also have space for the memorable item you see on your holiday.

A travel necessity is a versatile traveling bag able to be worn over the shoulder with ample pouches and large enough to hold two-quart size water bottles. My personal choice is manufactured by TUMI. It is about 14” tall, 12” wide, and 6” deep. I have traveled extensively with my current bag and find it still in almost as good a condition as when I purchased it. The second is a wheeled travel suitcase. I use the standard size capable of being airline carry-on luggage. Mark all your bags with colorful, easily identified, wrapping tape. There are a lot of similar looking bags and this will make your baggage claim easier.

I would remind everyone to take just enough toiletry supplies to last you for the intended trip. If you run out of, say, toothpaste, you might just find a new favorite. The extra weight and bulk of carrying a larger size is not worth it. Smaller size bottles and tubes of most items are available at Wal-Mart. If they are not available, purchase empty plastic bottles just large enough for your trip and fill them with your favorite product.

Pack liquids in plastic bags to contain leaks. Take a plastic sandwich bag and fold toilet paper into individual packets thick enough to be serviceable. The number of sheets per packet will depend on the ply of the toilet paper used. Toilet seat covers and handy-wipes can be included in the baggie. Carry one in your carry-on bag with the second in your suitcase. You never know when they might come in handy. The other day I was in San Francisco at a BART Station and was glad I had my toilet paper in my traveling bag.

We at Mexican-Tours wish you safe and happy traveling.
